ASOCIACION DE OSA PULCHRA

Agua Buena, Osa Peninsula

View of wildlife laguna from backyard of ecotourist accommodation

Location: Approximately 200 kms southwest of San Jose near Corcovado Park and 5 kms from the highway.

Description: This community of approximately 90 families lives within the 550-hectare horseshoe-shaped watershed. The Youth Environmental Center of the Neotropica Foundation is located in the watershed and is the main source of employment. So far, logging on the watershed slopes has been limited, partly due to payments given for several years to protect them. However, clearing of the land remains a threat when there is so little other income. The Osa Pulchra Association sees the value of protecting the slopes both to maintain their source of water and for ecotourism income.
