Kitchen/dining room at the Research Station

Location: Approximately 120 kms west of San Jose adjacent to the Carara Biological Reserve. The nearest town is Orotina.

Description: The Association owns approximately 75 acres of land in various locations which they have acquired for specific conservation purposes. Their Research station contains an educational center, several cabins and a dormitory. They produce a variety of crops using the analog agroforestry method and obtain much of their income from honey production. They have more than 300 species of citrus trees catalogued on their land as well as 1,100 species of native woods. They have established a genetic bank of species for that climatic zone. A focus of their activities is watershed reforestation which they undertake with local communities.
